Working conditions on film and television sets became a popular topic on social media when Hollywood union IATSE threatened to go on strike in early October. But recently, Alec Baldwin’s accidental shooting on the set of “Rust” and Ruby Rose’s accusations of on-set injuries and threats on the set of “Batwoman” have people wondering—have film sets ever been safe? IATSE, or the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, has made it clear that film sets were unsafe before the tragic incident on the set of “Rust.” Extremely long work hours, lack of respect for crew members, and cut-corners to save money are a few of the many issues on film sets.
